Following Gorée, head to Ouakam to discover or rediscover « Wamè », Joseph Gaï Ramaka’s powerful film @ramakaramakam, featured at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
Shot in black and white, « Wamè » immerses us in an African odyssey where bodies, song, dance, and memory convey what words sometimes cannot express.
Through the sea, migrations, the transatlantic slave trade, Thiaroye, and contemporary tragedies, the film questions our relationship with memory, violence, hope, and peace.
The word « Wamè », drawn from Lebou culture, refers to the force that lifts and stirs the sea when it turns into a storm.
